SFCNS Swiss Brain Health Plan: National commitment to brain health
Since 2022, the Swiss Federation of Clinical Neuro-Societies (SFCNS) has been committed to implementing the goals of the WHO and the European Academy of Neurology EAN to promote brain health in Switzerland with the SFCNS Swiss Brain Health Plan. The aim is to raise awareness of brain health as a whole and initiate prevention programmes. Representatives from neurology, psychiatry, health economics, public health and patient organisations work closely together in the SFCNS Swiss Brain Health Plan consortium. The project was initiated and is coordinated by the SFCNS.
The successes to date are remarkable:
- Networking and strategy: establishment of an interprofessional network with representatives from medicine, public health, politics, research and patient organisations, organisation of events on the topic of brain health with national and international stakeholders
- Raising awareness: Awareness campaigns such as the #BrainHealthChallenge2025
- Prevention: initiatives on the topic of migraines (migraine friendly workspace and migraine friendly school)
- Education and research: Joint research work with the European Academy of Neurology EAN, the WHO and the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation IHME at the University of Washington (e.g. on the costs of brain diseases and sleep disorders)
The Swiss Neurological Society SNS is a member of the Swiss Federation of Clinical Neuro-Societies (SFCNS) and is involved in the Board of the SFCNS Swiss Brain Health Plan.
Not only on today's World Brain Day, the SNS is committed to raising awareness of the importance of brain health, because in Switzerland, brain diseases arethe most common cause of disability in everyday life and cause enormous health costs year after year (estimated costs for 2019: 24 billion US dollars, which is more than the costs for any other group of diseases). Broad public awareness and political commitmentare therefore urgently needed.
