Information on the co-payment for epilepsy medication

05.02.2024

Since 1 January 2024, insured persons in Switzerland have had to pay a higher co-payment of 40% on medication if a cheaper alternative is available. However, this only applies if substitution is medically unproblematic - and, according to the Epilepsy League, not for the treatment of epilepsy.

In Switzerland, certain medications can now be billed with a co-payment of 40 per cent according to the list of specialities; previously it was 20 per cent. In this case, pharmacists are authorised to dispense a cheaper medicine.

Further information can be found in the press release from the Swiss Epilepsy League (in german or french).
